Birthday Party FAQs

The Chocolatarium is suitable for the vast majority of those with dietary requirements. There are no nut products used at any part of the tour and diary-free alternatives can be prepared.

After booking, you will be given a link to a Parental Consent questionnaire to send to all parents/guardians. This gathers information all the information we need about each children's dietary requirements.

In the meantime, for detailed information for each type of diet or allergy, including vegan, halal, dairy-free, gluten, nuts & peanuts, soya and coeliac see the Dietary Requirements section on our main FAQ page.

There is no large deposit to pay but you can reserve your date instantly online with a £10 deposit. This £10 will be deducted from your final invoice and can be transferred to another date (subject to availability). The balance is due 7 days before the event.

Your event date can be changed free of charge with 7 days' notice (but please let us know sooner if you can).

Birthday parties are charged at a flat rate for a maximum of 18 children (and 2 supervising adults).

You can have as few people as you wish but this means that if your group is quite small, it might prove uneconomical to have a private party and you could consider joining one of our public tours instead. Please note there must be at least one adult per five children attending public tours.

Siblings are of course welcome and are counted as one of the 18 children. However, please bear in mind that the activities are not suitable for children under the age of 6 years.

There is a minimum of one and a maximum of three adult helpers per party. Two adult helpers is ideal

If you would like a party with a mix of adults and children, please book a Private Tour of Chocolate and let us know what aspects of the children's birthday party you would like to be included.

Yes. The Guides are very good at making the birthday girl or boy feel special. They will also get the chance to make some special chocolates just for them.

We don't supply party bags but if you would like to bring them, we can store them in the office and your Guide can help you give them out at the end.

The children will be getting plenty of sweet treats during the chocolate tour but if you would like to bring a cake too, you are more than welcome to and you can bring it into the room towards the end of the party. We have found that individual cupcakes work extremely well as they can be easily taken away by the children.

Please bring party bags to take the cake away in as the cake won't be eaten at The Chocolatarium. Please also be aware that some of the children at the party may have dietary requirements so please check with parents beforehand.

The children will be too busy eating and making chocolate to include other party food in the 90 minutes.

Some families like to combine a trip to The Chocolatarium with a pizza at Pizza Express or (in the summer) a picnic at Arthur's Seat. We recommend leaving 30 minutes between the end time of the party and a booking at Pizza Express or other nearby restaurant.

The chocolate tour is a fantastic experience. It’s about an hour and a half of talking about the chocolate making process, making your own chocolate with tons of toppings and a LOT of tasting chocolate at the end.
