Digital Marketing Assistant and Customer Administrator

The role is approximately 60% Marketing and 40% Customer Administration but this will fluctuate according to the needs of the business.

At least 3 days per week will be spent on site but there is also some scope for home and flexible working.

 

About The Chocolatarium

The Chocolatarium is a chocolate-themed visitor attraction and gift shop just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, with an online chocolate shop launching in the coming months. Founded in September 2019, we have quickly grown to become a thriving business and one of Edinburgh’s most popular visitor attractions.

Through our team efforts, we bring a little joy and magic into people’s lives through the wonderful world of chocolate and aim to provide exceptional experiences for our visitors. We were ranked #3 Food Experience in the world on Trip Advisor in 2021 and currently 97% or our reviews receive 5 stars.

We are looking for an enthusiastic new member of the team to work closely with our Marketing Manager, Operations Manager and friendly and enthusiastic Chocolate Tour Guides.

You will also spend approximately one third of your week working on marketing for the Company Owner’s second business, an Alba English, an English Language School.

 

About the Role

The Chocolatarium is a growing business where no two days are the same and you must be flexible and adaptable to change. You will work with the direction of the Marketing Manager and Operations Manager but must be a well-organised, self-reliant and self-motivated individual.

Your main roles will involve:

Customer Administration

  • responding to customer emails (and a small number of calls) to a consistent, high standard
  • managing group bookings from schools, hen parties, corporate groups, etc.
  • handling customer queries and issues
  • creating invoices and checking payments
  • suggesting and implementing improvements to make processes and sales funnels more effective and efficient

 

Digital Marketing – The Chocolatarium & Alba English School

Under the direction and with the support of the Marketing Manager you will be involved in:

  • helping to generate campaign ideas
  • writing marketing content, both for SEO-optimised blog posts, website copy, social media and other marketing channels
  • creating visual and audio-visual content
  • social listening and community management
  • monitoring and adapting PPC ads to improve effectiveness (with support)
  • monitoring and reporting on competitor activity
  • keeping up to date with digital marketing trends and technology

As we are a small and growing business, you must also be flexible and happy to help out with other aspects of the business when needed.

Salary: £20,000 -£22,000 per year.
Hours of work: 37.5 per week with 5.6 weeks' paid holiday per year.

 

What we are looking for

Essential - you MUST have:
A love of chocolate 😊 and working in multicultural environments
Proven interest and experience in marketing
Proven administrative ability
Copywriting skills; both long and short form
Commercial awareness
Social Media knowledge

The flexibility work effectively in a small and growing business
A balance of creativity and administrative skills
Great organisational skills with attention to detail and pride in what you do
Drive and self-motivation with a desire to continually learn new skills
The personality to work extremely well with others and build relationships with other staff, visitors, customers, students and suppliers

Desirable – it would be great if you also have:
Specific content production skills such as photography, graphic design and video
Understanding of and experience with Google Analytics
Sales experience
Experience in the travel, tourism, language education or food sectors

You'll join our team of friendly, vibrant and sociable Guides and become an expert in all things chocolate! The role particularly suits Actors or anyone with a performing background, Teachers or Activity Leaders with an engaging personality as well as friendly and outgoing college or uni students from any background.

The Job

The rate of pay is £10.70/hour plus tips and shifts are usually around 7 or 8 hours long. Working times vary but are usually between 9am and 9pm and often include weekends. Most guides work between 2 and 4 shifts per week.

Some Guides work all year round and other Guides are seasonal staff who work mostly in the busy holiday periods.

The role of Chocolate Tour Guide involves:
• guiding tours (based in the premises only). The tours may be for tourists, primary school groups, language school groups, children’s birthday parties, corporate groups, student groups, hen parties, etc.
• serving customers in the gift shop after the tour
• preparing before the tour
• cleaning and tidying up after the tours (chocolate is messy!)

The training process will involve getting to know, and becoming an expert in chocolate and the chocolate production process.
Full, paid training will be given.

• you have worked as an English Teacher
• you have worked with children

• you have experience in a retail environment
