Our Story
The Chocolatarium was born in 2019, when our founder set out to bring something new and exciting to Edinburgh. Inspired by time living in Ecuador and travelling through South America – by the people she met, the flavours she discovered, and the experience of seeing cacao growing in the rainforest – along with family ties to cacao farmers in Ecuador, the idea grew to share the magic of chocolate in her home city. What began as a second business soon became a place where visitors could not only taste and make chocolate, but also understand its story from the rainforests to the finished bar.
What We Do
Today, The Chocolatarium is all about making chocolate a fun, hands-on experience while also revealing the fascinating world and industry behind it. Our main experience, the award-winning Tour of Chocolate, is at the heart of what we do and was proudly named Best Food Experience in the UK (2025) on TripAdvisor. Visitors discover how chocolate is made, explore the ethics of cacao farming and labelling, and enjoy tastings from makers around the world alongside some of the most exciting chocolatiers right here in the UK. Beyond the tour, our shop and online store offer carefully chosen bars and truffles that highlight flavour, craft, and originality.

We strive to create a warm and supportive workplace where hardworking, caring, and inclusive teamwork allows staff to support one another, grow, and be themselves.
We also take our environmental impact seriously and regularly review what more we can do to reduce waste, from using compostable packaging for visitors’ chocolates to biodegradable gloves and piping bags in our kitchen.
